One of the major problems faced by the Somali
people in general is the lack of proper
healthcare. However, the situation is more
severe in central regions. Very few hospitals
are working in these regions. For instance,
major cities like Dhusamarreb do not even have
a effective clinic and residents have to
travel at least 100km to reach the nearest
hospital.
A
major factor that is contributing to the poor
health conditions in these regions is the lack
of drinkable, forget pure, water. People in
central regions mainly depend on water from
rainfall and very few wells. Unfortunately,
local people can not afford to dig wells on
their own cost.
Ileys plans to build and equip clinics and
support their operation and, most importantly,
help provide access to clean water.
To contribute to the health
situation in our target areas, we are planning
to undertake the following health and
sanitation programs:
-
Establishing
hospitals in major cities like Dhusamarreb
-
Establishing
Mother and Child Healthcare Centers (MCH)
-
Free mobile
medical camps especially in villages and
remote areas.
-
Digging wells
and maintaining their sanitation.
-
Construction
of latrines
-
Training for
the local doctors, nurses, midwives, and
pharmacists.
